Start with the right conversation
Hale labels its In-Glass Model as requiring professional installation. Bring the glazier photos of the whole door or window, any visible maker information and the intended access route. Ask the glazier what can be verified from that material and what needs an on-site assessment. Do not treat a drawing or a pet measurement as permission to modify installed glass.
Coordinate before placing an order
The pet-door model, the proposed passage position and the glass specification need to agree before fabrication. Ask who will verify the exact manufacturer drawing and communicate it to the glass supplier. Keep dated written confirmations together. An assumed opening size passed between two suppliers can create a costly mismatch; a named person responsible for coordination makes the next step clearer.
Compare complete project prices
Hale’s product page explicitly states that its pet-door price does not include the glass. Ask for a quote that identifies which party supplies the pet door, which supplies the glass, who installs each part and who handles removal and disposal. Record lead times and any arrangements for protecting the opening while work takes place. A single item price is not the cost of the completed project.
Review operation after the change
Ask the glazier to consider the complete door or window operation, including adjacent panels, hardware and the route the pet would use. Confirm how access will be controlled and how the household will use the surrounding space. Keep the final specification and care instructions after handover. A panel insert is a different project from a pet door fabricated into glass; request a separate scope if comparing those approaches.
